Brilliant house and facilities for an extended family holiday
Best holiday house we have rented. There were 16 of us from one extended family. Grandparents to young children including a baby. This accommodation had everything we needed for all ages in a wonderful remote location with stunning views.
The buildings and facilities were in a very good state making it feel really comfortable. The extra large swimming pool was amazing and we were able to relax and enjoy the holiday. Lots of different games equipment. Essential to have your own transport as it is so remote.
Many different interesting places to visit in the area. The wifi proved invaluable for the one member who needed to keep in regular contact with his business. The family want to go back and have another holiday at Almendrillo.

Enchanting setting makes for unforgettable getaway
The two weeks that we spent in Almendrillo were among the most restful – and exciting – I can remember. Our children and their friends soon colonised the extensive first floor, with sleeping bags draped across all occupiable space. The adults had ample bedrooms and spacious, white-washed bathrooms.
The generously equipped kitchen was ideal for planning elaborate meals, and the nearest shop was a five-minute drive away. We usually dropped into the Cooperativo de Consumo in Fuente del Conde on the way back, which had ample supplies for carnivores or vegetarians.
Some of us had come to this part of Andalucia to sight-see; others to paint the distant slopes and the endless orchards, heaving with fruit. We found that, with two hired cars, we could accomplish all our daily needs without hour-long house meetings. Some sought Granada, others an aqua-park but we all liked wandering around small towns. I had brought a junior cricket set and enjoyed devising different batting pitches. The table-tennis table received a thorough work-out.
The ever-helpful Andres, gardener cum swimming pool attendant, was also a font of useful information about goings-on in the locality.
Mike and Emma have sculpted an elegant living space out of this already dramatic landscape. The garden is green in summer, the swimming pool is a mere few seconds’ walk across the hot paving slabs. And the internet works!
Our chief memory of Almendrillo is contained on a photograph that hangs on our fridge door. It is of the cup-shaped oak tree in Almendrillo’s back garden. Its low-hanging branches are draped with small humans, their limbs gymnastically attached to its lower trunk. Whenever I look at that photo, I remember both the heat and the immense calm of the house. I would love for us all to go back. It must be equally stunning at any time of the year. In fact, I wonder what it’s like around Christmas…

Off the beaten track (literally) but on the road to heaven
This is a beautiful finca commanding the top of a hill which gives you total seclusion and a view that makes you want to give up your job. We spent nearly a month here in August-September 2014 with a big array of friends and family. It had something for everyone.
A typical day consisted of a delicious breakfast overlooking the valley, followed – variously according to guest – by reading in the hammock, sunbathing, playing table tennis, exploring local villages, Cordoba and Granada, climbing the transcendent spanish oak (staying in it and singing, in some cases), drinking cava a bit too early in the day, hiking through the olive groves, wandering down to the bar in the village, horse-riding, swimming/floating in huge and splendid pool, kayaking on azure blue lake, or enjoying a massage on the shady terrace.
In the evening we cooked on the brilliant open flame of the outdoor kitchen in massive paella pans and enjoyed cocktails as the stars came out. If you are looking for quality time with those you love the most, this is the place. I would particularly recommend the following.
1. Get a massage from Philippa – she is lovely, reasonable and her massage outstanding.
2. Visit Al Hambra and see where Western civilisation was reborn.
3. Build a BBQ using the olive wood piled up outside- who would have thought it would make such a difference…?
4. Pay the modest extra for the help of marvellous Toni the housekeeper and put your feet up
5. For those who like a cold beer in the afternoon, get the local guy to deliver the chilling-tap system complete with 50 litres of san miguel and enjoy it on draft.

A perfect week at the Finca
We spent an amazing week at the Finca in july 2014. Six norvegian families – twelve adults and eleven kids from age 1 to 7 had a blast. We were completely stunned by the increadible views of the landscape, the peace and quiet, the wonderful courtyard, the facilies, the enormous pool and also all the recommendations from the owners, for example the use of the local chefs – who provided excellent food. The six families were just thrilled about this wonderful place and had the best time!

From Celebratory trip to working holiday
What a wonderful place to stay, I first came out with a large group of friends to celebrate a birthday and a wedding anniversary. I had such a good stay in this great property that I’ve decided to go back again. The property is perfect, everything you need is there, the location is awesome with some views from the pool to take your breath away, It is the peace that has made me decide to go back with my Yoga students for a Yoga Holiday.
Beautiful house with great pool and amazing views
We travelled the first week in August in a group of 18 – four families with children ranging from 11 to 19. We have holidayed together many times in the UK and abroad, and the general consensus was that this was the best property we had ever stayed in.
From the moment we booked it with Mike there were clear instructions about what we needed to do, and when. The directions from Malaga airport were very clear (keep the faith as you climb that hill!) and the property was everything the photos had led us to believe.
Andres, based in the nearby village, was on hand in the event of any probelmes (there weren’t but he contacted us to check everything was ok). We pre-ordered alcohol and soft drinks from him which were there when we arrived – very welcome! The big fridge in the courtyard is a superb touch and it kept the drinks lovely and cold in very high temperatures.
Everything was very clean and it was great not to have to bring towels – separate ones were provided for the pool. There was a folder of local activities but, apart from a few trips to swim at the large lake at Iznajar about 20 minutes away, we really didn’t move far as we had fantastic weather and the pool was superb and the views from the house were stunning.
Although we were a large group, there was always a quiet spot you could find to relax in the shade and read a book and have a siesta (or in my case, a mid morning nap after my daily lengths in the pool).
We ate most of our meals in the courtyard and made a lot of use of the barbecue and outside kitchen. The teenagers loved the dishwasher as it meant they didn’t need to wash up. There were plenty of fridge and freezer storage space, meaning we didn’t need to go to the supermarket every day.
All in all, a fantastic holiday in a beautiful house – we would love to return.

Beautiful, serene time had by all at Almendrillo
We were a group of 13 adults, 3 kids and 2 babies visiting Almendrillo in mid June and had the most amazing serene time. It was a real treat to get away from the hustle and bustle in this traditional style accommodation with views that took our breath away. Mike was very helpful in making sure we had everything we needed and was a phone call away when the need arose.
Set in beautiful part of Andalucia that I’d not visited before, Almendrillo ticked A LOT of boxes. The wonderful courtyard with outside kitchen was used most nights. The amazing swimming pool was a great size. We had total privacy in a peaceful setting with no neighbours heard all week. The weather was great and although hot everyday the traditional style building with thick walls and smallish windows with shutters ensured we were not too hot at night (a real surprise). It was hard to tear ourselves away from the terrace which had a beautiful panoramic view of the mountains in the distance.
The kids loved feeding the friendly chickens and of course the swimming pool was a big hit. There were some great day trips within easy driving distance. A big lake near Iznajar (15mins), Granada was only an hour away. Some spectacular walks in Sierra Nevada (highly recommend Los Cahorros just outside Monachil), the circular route through the Gorge, over rope bridges and picking cherries off trees on route… spectacular!! There is also El Torcal national park which some of our group visited.
The local bar/restaurant Los Pajaritos was a 15 min stroll away, great drinks and food and showed World Cup games which was excellent (drinks were a lot better than the results tho!)
I don’t usually write reviews but thought I’d share our experience as the photos don’t do it justice. Just writing this has brought back happy memories and planning to go back in the near future. Thanks Mike!

Our family of 14 stayed at Finca Almendrillo in June. The villa is extremely spacious with lovely terraces and grounds and a beautiful pool. It was so lovely to sit out on a lunchtime or evening after putting the children to bed, at luchtime we would sit on the terrace at the back admiring the views and on an evening we would sit and eat in the courtyard in the middle.
There was a bedroom for everyone and plenty of bathrooms. Mike was on hand to answer any queries and popped in to make sure all was OK. The pool is very large and the kids loved it, it was a bit nippy at the start of the week but had warmed up a bit by the end. We had the caterers in twice during our stay and I can thoroughly recommend them they were superb.
Also, we ate at the local village restaurant and we all thought this was excellent too. We all had a fabulous holiday, it is a beautiful villa and perfect for big family or group getaways.
